• Code letters are carried by Service types in operational units and operational training units. The two code letters, and one letter to indicated the individual aircraft, are to be painted in the appropriate colour and placed before and behind the roundels on the fuselage.
  
• This RAF code letter sheet is suitable for the following aircraft, Lancaster Bomber, Halifax, Sterling, Wellingtons.
  
• The AM order (x.798) to repaint codes from medium sea grey to dull red was issued in Jan 1941 - not all aircraft were immediately repainted however.
