The Welkin was a British high-altitude fighter aircraft, designed in the first half of WWII to combat high-flying German bombers. It was the largest single-seat twin-engined aircraft, exploiting a number of advanced components, including the cabin pressurization system. Although this aeroplane was not introduced into regular service with the RAF – the priority was given to the de Havilland Mosquito fighters instead – almost 100 were built, including the two-seat night version equipped with radar in the nose.
